Request to withdraw a visa application
Find out how to request to withdraw a visa application online or on paper.
Request to withdraw your application online
You can withdraw your application online if you applied online for:
- a visitor visa (excluding Group Visitor Visas)
- an Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV)
- accreditation for the AEWV
- an AEWV job check
- a Permanent Resident Visa
- a Second or Subsequent Resident Visa
- a Transit Visa
- a variation of travel conditions on a resident visa, or
- a Phase 2, 2021 Resident Visa.
Note
The process to apply for a refund is separate to the withdraw process. Requesting to withdraw your application does not mean you will receive a refund on any fees or levies paid.
To request to withdraw your online application:
- Log in to your account.
- You can find the option to withdraw in the ‘my visas’ tab, select ‘Request withdraw’ from the drop-down list.
- You can then request to withdraw your visa application.
For all other online visa applications
If you have applied for another type of visa online, you can upload a cover letter requesting to withdraw your application to your application portal.
Request to withdraw a paper application
If you applied on paper, or through a Visa Application Centre, you must send us a cover letter explaining your request to withdraw.
Postal addresses for sending paper documents
If an immigration officer has contacted you about withdrawing your application, send them a cover letter explaining your request to withdraw.
Once an application is withdrawn, the decision is final and cannot be reversed.
If we have already made a decision
If we have already made a decision on your application you cannot withdraw it, you can apply for another visa.
