Passports we do not recognise
We do not recognise passports from some countries, territories and authorities. This means that we will not issue a visa into these passports, and we will not accept these passports for travel to New Zealand.
Countries and territories
We do not recognise or accept passports from the following countries and territories:
- Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan
- Federal Republic of Somalia
- Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus
Note
We do recognise passports issued by the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan from 2004 to 2021.
Other passports and travel documents that we do not accept
We do not recognise or accept:
- diplomatic and official passports from Taiwan
- World Service Authority passports
- Maori Kingdom of Tetiti Islands passports
- Yugoslavian collective passports
- Slovenian collective passports
- Kiribati investor passports
- Tongan Protected Person's Passport (TPPP)
- Nauru investor passports
- Greek passports issued before 1 January 2006
- Kuwait article 17 passports
- United Nations Transitional Administration for East Timor (UNTAET) travel documents
- Iraqi S series passport
- Egyptian travel documents issued for Palestinian refugees (unless they include an entry visa that allows the holder to enter Egypt).

Damaged or expired passports
We will not accept your passport or travel document if it has expired, is damaged or has been reported lost or stolen, or has been invalidated.
