When does my residence status become activated?

It is important to know the date your residence status in New Zealand becomes activated, as you will use this date to calculate your eligibility for a Permanent Resident Visa, or your eligibility to have any imposed conditions removed from your residence status. It also marks the beginning of your Travel Conditions.

Here is how to find out the date your residence status began:

Was your residence visa granted to you while you were outside of New Zealand?

If your residence application was processed by one of our immigration branches outside of New Zealand or you were outside of New Zealand when it was granted, your residence status will become activated on the date you first enter New Zealand with your new Residence Visa. You will have a limited amount of time to activate your residence once your visa is granted.
