New Build to Rent investment option added to Active Investor Plus
Investor migrants applying through the Active Investor Plus Visa will soon have a new way to invest in New Zealand, with Build to Rent developments being added as an eligible Growth category investment option.
Build to Rent will become an eligible Growth category investment option
Eligible Build to Rent developments will become an acceptable investment option under the Growth category of the Active Investor Plus (AIP) Visa in December 2026.
The change builds on the strong performance of Active Investor Plus, which has attracted significant international interest and investment into New Zealand. It will provide investor migrants with another way to invest in New Zealand through the Growth category while maintaining the programme's focus on high-quality investments.
Growth category applicants will be able to invest through approved managed funds
Build to Rent investment will be available through approved managed funds, giving Growth category applicants access to purpose-built rental housing developments through investment structures that meet Active Investor Plus requirements.
Managed funds will need to meet requirements relating to capability, governance and delivery.
Further information on eligibility requirements, investment structures and implementation timeframes will be provided before the change takes effect.
