Special directions
Special directions are issued by the Minister of Immigration in the New Zealand Government on matters related to immigration.
Note
A new special direction came into effect on 12 December 2025.
It waives a number of requirements for a group of Singaporean military personnel taking part in Exercise Thunder Warrior 2026, so they do not need to apply individually for military visas to come to New Zealand.
The special direction will expire at the end of February 2026, unless revoked earlier.
