International Qualification Assessment (IQA)
If you are applying for a visa with qualification requirements, you may need to:
- apply for an International Qualification Assessment (IQA), and
- send the results with your visa application.
You apply through the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) and they do the assessment.
Check the LQEA to see if you need an assessment
Some qualifications do not need an assessment, such as the Washington Accord and Sydney Accord qualifications.
Search the List of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment (LQEA) to see if you need an assessment for your qualification.
The LQEA shows the equivalent level (or level and type) of some overseas qualifications against the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework.
If your qualification is on the LQEA
You do not need an International Qualification Assessment (IQA) if your qualification is on the LQEA.
We may still ask you to get an IQA when we process your visa application. This is if the visa requirement is to show credit or knowledge rather than type or level.
What to do if your qualification is not on the LQEA
You need to get an IQA and send the results with your visa application if your qualification is not on the LQEA.
