Can my passport be returned while my visa application is being processed?

Yes, in most cases your passport can be returned if you need it while your visa application is being processed.

To have your passport returned, you should contact the Immigration New Zealand branch that is processing your application, or the Visa Application Centre (VAC) responsible for receiving visa applications in your country or region.

If you contact a VAC to request your passport, you will be required to complete a 'Passport Retrieval Form'. The VAC will contact the appropriate Immigration New Zealand branch directly if you urgently require your passport.

If you have requested your passport be returned through a VAC, you must return it to that VAC so your application can be completed.
