National Refugee Resettlement Forum

The National Refugee Resettlement Forum is an annual event facilitated by the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment. The Forum provides refugee resettlement stakeholders with the opportunity to actively engage on strategic refugee resettlement issues. Government agencies, non-government organisations, service providers, former refugee communities and international organisations participate in the Forum.

The theme for the 2019 Forum is “Community engagement” — the forum will start the conversation which will be continued over the next 12 months to develop an approach and the pathway required to better connect communities locally to support refugee settlement in the current and new settlement locations.

The theme will be explored through a series of workshops to establish a framework and principals to guide the development of a community engagement approach that connects communities in each region and across New Zealand to strengthen the overall support for refugee settlement outcomes.

We recognise the broad interest in community engagement, however, places for attendance at the 2019 Forum are limited and so attendance is by invitation only. The focus for those invitations will be to ensure strong representation and attendance from former refugee communities and local councils where refugee settlement is and will be taking place.

We recognise the contribution other stakeholders will be able to make to the conversation about community engagement and following the 2019 Forum as the work is developed we will be seeking input from a range of stakeholders.

The 2019 Forum will be held at Te Papa, 55 Cable Street, Wellington on 21-22 May 2019.
