Refugee and protection
Refugees arrive in New Zealand under our quota, as family members or as asylum-seekers. We work to settle refugees successfully into their new communities, helping them to use health, housing and employment services.
Each year New Zealand receives about 1500 people through the Refugee Quota Programme, 600 through the Refugee Family Support Category and a number of convention refugees onshore. Individuals may also come through the extended Community Organisation Refugee Sponsorship (CORS) pilot, or one-off humanitarian interventions such as the Afghan Response.
