Welcoming Week
Imagery: Sweeping shots of a beautiful beach and the countryside then switches to a Community Hall setting: people from various ethnic groups rushing, smiling, through the front door — same people laughing and making dumplings in kitchen of a community hall — same people, seated, happily sharing food in the community hall.
Narrator: We've always been proud of the natural beauty of Aotearoa New Zealand. And famous for our kiwi hospitality. Now let's celebrate how diverse we are as a nation and as a community...

Narrator: Welcoming Week in September is our chance to reach out to our newest schoolmate, teammate, neighbour and friend…
Imagery: Friends talking over coffee in a café
Narrator: ... to show how much we value these relationships.
Imagery: a series of images of people laughing and walking together in various New Zealand landscape settings including the beach.
Narrator: Because it can be hard moving to a new place. And even harder to feel that sense of home.

Narrator: So this Welcoming Week, let’s show how we care by sharing a welcoming smile, or even a welcoming meal.

Narrator: Because no matter where you were born or how you got here — Nau Mai Rā — We're Glad You're Here!
Celebrate Welcoming Week
Celebrate Welcoming Week – Te Wiki o Manaaki from 6 – 15 September 2024!
Aotearoa New Zealand is one of the most diverse countries in the world. With over 200 different ethnicities and a quarter of all people who call New Zealand home born overseas, our diversity is our strength. It is what makes us a vibrant and attractive place to be.
Welcoming Week is a time to showcase and celebrate how communities across Aotearoa New Zealand are working to be more welcoming places for all. It provides an opportunity to celebrate our welcoming values through local events and initiatives. It is a time to show whanaungatanga (the importance of relationships) and manaakitanga (the value of extending hospitality and caring for other people).
So, for this year’s Welcoming Week, let’s roll out the welcome mat and celebrate the things that unite us. Because no matter what language you speak, or where you are born – we are glad you are here!
