The council has been formally accredited as an Established Welcoming Community.

The accreditation recognises the Whanganui community is clear about what it wants to achieve. It has created a Welcoming Plan and has started putting in place plan activities. It also acknowledges governance and associated procedures are in place and that the Whanganui District Council has set up partnerships to promote and implement the Welcoming Communities programme.

Welcoming Communities Members

Whanganui joins seven other participants in the programme that have achieved Established Welcoming Communities accreditation:

  • Tauranga City Council
  • Western Bay of Plenty District Council
  • Palmerston North City Council
  • Ashburton District Council
  • Gore District Council
  • Invercargill City Council
  • Southland District Council

You can find more details about the Welcoming Communities programme and its work on the INZ website.
