Thai chefs

If you have a job offer from a New Zealand employer as a Thai chef you may qualify for a work visa or permit for up to three years.

Requirements you must meet

You must meet our health and character requirements and show us that you have completed the following qualifications and have relevant work experience:

  • Thailand National Skills Standard Thai Cooking Certificate 1 and five years of practical experience; or
  • Thailand National Skills Standard Thai Cooking Certificate 2 and four years of practical experience; or
  • Thailand National Skills Standard Thai Cooking Certificate 3 and three years of practical experience.

Requirements your employer must meet

Your New Zealand employer must show us:

  • a job offer for up to three years as a Thai chef
  • a written guarantee that they will meet your wages or salary.

If you are approved

If you are approved, we will issue you a work visa or permit for the length of your employment agreement, for up to three years. This permit may be extended by one year.

If you work the full three or four years in New Zealand and later wish to return here under this policy, you will need to have been outside of New Zealand for at least three years.

Apply

To apply under this category, you will need to complete the Work Visa/Permit Application (INZ 1015) PDF form and provide evidence that you and your employer meet the requirements stated above.
