Special Zimbabwe Residence Policy

The Special Zimbabwe Residence Policy is for Zimbabwean nationals who arrived in New Zealand on or before 23 September 2004, and who are not eligible for residence under existing residence policies.

Zimbabwean nationals will be granted residence in New Zealand under the Special Zimbabwe Residence Policy if they:

  • arrived in New Zealand on or before 23 September 2004 on a Zimbabwean passport; and 
  • have not spent more than 90 days in total outside New Zealand since 1 April 2000; and
  • are currently lawfully in New Zealand; and 
  • are not a citizen of, nor have the right to be a citizen of, any country other than Zimbabwe; and 
  • are not a prohibited person (by virtue of being on the list of persons closely associated with Robert Mugabe and the Zimbabwe Government); and 
  • can demonstrate good character; and 
  • do not meet the requirements for approval under any other category of residence; and 
  • lodge their application under this policy on or before 28 February 2007.

Every person included in the application must also complete a Medical and Chest X-ray Certificate Form (NZIS 1007), PDF

Health requirements under Special Zimbabwe Residence Policy

Applicants in New Zealand

Principal applicants under the Special Zimbabwe Residence Policy and partners and dependent children included in their applications who are in New Zealand at the date their application is made are exempt from the requirement to be of an acceptable standard of health.

 

Applicants not in New Zealand

Partners and dependent children included in applications under this policy who are not in New Zealand on the date the application is made, are required to meet health requirements policy for residence.  They may be considered for a medical waiver under standard policy.

 

All applicants will still be required to have their health screened and must supply a  Medical and Chest X-ray Certificate Form (NZIS 1007).
