Can I sponsor my parent?

While we welcome your parents to New Zealand, you must be an eligible sponsor, and your parents will need to meet a number of requirements before they can apply for residence under the Family Category (Parent Policy).

In some situations grandparents and legal guardians are also considered as parents.

 

As a sponsoring child you must:

 

• complete a Sponsorship Form for Residence in New Zealand (NZIS 1024 PDF on which you
  • declare you meet the requirements, and
  • attach evidence of your immigration status
  • attach evidence that you and/or your partner meet the minimum income requirement.

 

To apply for residence your parents must:

 

• complete an Application for Residence in New Zealand form (NZIS 1000) PDF

 

In some situations grandparents and legal guardians are also considered as parents.

 

If your grandparents or legal guardians are applying, they must show evidence of their relationship to you and evidence that your parents are deceased.
