W3.75 New Zealand Racing Conference apprentices (26/07/1999)
  1. The NZIS allows entry of a maximum of 10 overseas apprentice jockeys each year, who may be issued with work visas and granted work permits for up to 4 years.
  2. Applicants must provide evidence that:
    1. they are at least 16 at the date of applying, and
    2. they have a job offer, and
    3. they are supported by the trainer and the New Zealand Racing Conference, and
    4. the New Zealand Racing Conference guarantees their maintenance and accommodation, and
    5. the individual trainer guarantees repatriation if the applicant does not continue with the apprenticeship for any reason whatsoever.
  3. If visa and immigration officers sight and are satisfied with the evidence required in paragraph (b), they may issue a work visa or grant a work permit for up to a maximum of 4 years.

    Note: apprentices who wish to change trainers should apply for and obtain a Variation of Conditions to their work permit.
