W3.70 Halal slaughtermen (26/07/1999)
  1. The Meat Industry Association of New Zealand (MIA) recruits and selects Halal slaughtermen to kill cattle and sheep in accordance with Muslim custom. Applicants for this type of employment may be issued with work visas authorising a permit for the period of employment offered, up to a maximum of 12 months.
  2. Once MIA has made its selection, it advises the NZIS branch or post in the applicants' home countries of those offered employment.
  3. Visa and immigration officers must sight evidence of the job offer from the MIA, specifying the period of employment.
