C3.25 Refugee or protection claim to be confirmed in writing in the prescribed manner

  1. Once a claim is made, the claimant must, on request by a representative of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, confirm the claim in writing in the prescribed manner.
  2. A claim for refugee or protection status must be:
    1. lodged in writing using the approved form Confirmation of Claim to Refugee or Protection Status in New Zealand; and
    2. completed in English; and
    3. signed by the claimant; and
    4. lodged with a refugee and protection officer; and
    5. accompanied by:
      • a current residential address for the claimant; and
      • a current address to which communications relating to the claim may be sent, including a fax number if appropriate; and
      • the name of any lawyer or agent authorised to represent the claimant; and
      • the current postal address of any lawyer or agent authorised to represent the claimant, including a fax number for the lawyer or agent if appropriate.
  3. The claimant must notify the Refugee and Protection branch in a timely manner of a change in any of the addresses or fax numbers provided.
  4. The officer may rely on the latest address to which communications may be sent for the purpose of communications under Part 5 of the Immigration Act 2009.
