H8.17 Requirements of a Supporting Family Member

The Supporting Family Member must be a person who:

  1. is ordinarily resident in New Zealand; and
  2. is a New Zealand citizen or the holder of a current residence class visa; and
  3. was born in Ukraine, or is a citizen, or was a citizen, or is a permanent resident of Ukraine; or
  4. has a parent or grandparent who meets one of the requirements in (c) above.

H8.17.5 Family relationship requirements (extended family)

  1. The Nominated Family Member must be the Supporting Family Member’s:
    1. parent; or
    2. grandparent; or
    3. sibling; or
    4. adult child; or
    5. aunt or uncle; or
    6. niece or nephew; or
    7. grandchild; or
    8. first cousin; or
    9. step-sibling.
  2. Where (a)(v)-(ix) above applies, the Nominated Family Member must also be an adult who has lived with the Supporting Family Member’s family unit for a substantial period of time; and
  3. For the purposes of (a)(i) above, a parent includes:
    1. a biological or adoptive parent; and
    2. a partner of a biological or adoptive parent who the New Zealand sponsor lived with for a predominant period of their childhood between the time their relationship began and until the time the child turned 18 years of age.

H8.17.10 Ordinarily Resident in New Zealand

For family relationship nomination purposes, a person is considered to be ‘ordinarily resident’ in New Zealand where an immigration officer is satisfied that New Zealand is their primary place of established residence.
