South Africa - Trade Qualifications (26/09/2011)

Trade Qualifications

The qualifications awarded by the institutions listed below qualify for the points indicated where:

  • the qualification is relevant to an occupation in Part B of the List of Skilled Occupations at Appendix 6, and
  • if before 1985 the applicant held a Contract of Apprenticeship in the same or similar occupation as the qualification in Table A awarded or endorsed by:
    • the Registrar of Apprenticeship (1967-1981); or
    • the Registrar of Manpower and Training (1981-1985); or
    • one of the Industry Training Boards listed in Table E.
  • from 1985 onward the applicant, on passing a qualifying trade test in the same or similar occupation as the qualification in Table A holds a:
    • Trade Diploma; or
    • Trade Certificate; or
    • Certificate of Qualification; or
    • Certificate listed in Table E.

    awarded or endorsed by:

    • the Registrar of Manpower and Training (from 1985); or
    • an Industry Training Board (1985 2000); or
    • a Sector Education and Training Authority (from 2000).

Trade Related Qualifications

The qualifications in the following table qualify for the points indicated where:

  • the qualification is relevant to an occupation in Part B of the List of Skilled Occupations at 6, and
  • the qualification is awarded within the ‘Qualification awarded from’ date range by:
    • a Government Department listed in Table C; or
    • a Technikon/University of Technology listed in Table D, and
  • the applicant, on passing a qualifying trade test holds one of the following qualifications awarded or endorsed by a Government Department, an Industry Training Board or Sector Education and Training Authority:
    • Trade Diploma
    • Trade Certificate
    • Certificate of Qualification
    • Certificate in the same or similar occupation as the qualification in Table B.
