W6.40 The Korea-New Zealand Working Holiday Scheme (01/04/2001)
  1. This scheme allows 400 young citizens of the Republic of Korea annually to be issued with multiple entry work visas, current for 12 months from the date of issue, authorising employment for a maximum of 12 months from the date of arrival.
  2. To be eligible for a work visa under this scheme, applicants must:
    1. be citizens of the Republic of Korea who have been resident in the Republic of Korea for at least 6 months at the time of applying, and
    2. be aged between 18 and 30 years (both inclusive) at the time of application and not accompanied by dependent children, and
    3. satisfy the visa officer at the NZIS branch in Hong Kong that their main intention for coming to New Zealand is to holiday, and that employment is an incidental reason for the visit, and
    4. provide evidence of sufficient funds to purchase a return travel ticket, and
    5. have a minimum of NZ$4,200 available funds for maintenance, and
    6. agree to hold comprehensive medical and comprehensive hospitalisation insurance that will remain current throughout their stay.
  3. Holders of such visas:
    1. must not undertake permanent or long-term employment unless they apply for and obtain a permit that enables this as provided by W6.5.1, and
    2. must not work for the same employer for more than 3 months, and
    3. will not be eligible to come to New Zealand for any further working holiday under the scheme.
