United Kingdom - Trade and Craft Qualifications (27/01/2014)

Level 3 Qualifications

Appendix 3 does not include Level 3 qualifications. Level three qualifications which are recognised as an exception under the Skilled Migrant Category are included in the list of Qualifications recognised as an Exception (Appendix 8).

City and Guilds of London Institute Craft Qualifications

The craft qualifications in Table A qualify for the points indicated where the qualification:

  • is awarded by the City & Guilds of London Institute in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales; and
  • is listed within the dates specified in Table A below; and
  • is relevant to an occupation in Part B of the List of Skilled Occupations at Appendix 6.

If any courses leading to the award of one of the qualifications listed above were studied at any institution outside of the United Kingdom, including any United Kingdom overseas campuses, or any courses which have been cross-credited towards the listed qualifications please refer the qualification to the NZQA for an International Qualification Assessment, this includes all International City and Guilds qualifications.

All qualifications awarded after 2013 should be referred to the NZQA for an International Qualification Assessment.

If an applicant believes their qualification may be higher than the level stated they should apply to the NZQA for an International Qualification Assessment.

For any purpose other than claiming the SMC points stated, evidence of completing a time-based apprenticeship from an appropriate awarding body, in a relevant occupation, is also likely to be required.

Trade Qualifications (Apprenticeships)

The qualifications in Table B qualify for the points indicated where the qualification:

  • is relevant to an occupation in Part B of the List of Skilled Occupations at Appendix 6; and
  • is awarded by an awarding body specified in Table C below.
