D8.1 Repatriation of people from New Zealand

  1. Repatriation involves the State paying some or all travel costs to enable visa holders to return to a country to which they have right of entry. This will usually be their country of citizenship.
  2. In some cases where the family unit wishes to remain intact, this may include repatriating a New Zealand citizen, residence class visa holder, spouse, partner or dependent child.
  3. Repatriation will normally only occur in circumstances where the person is the holder of a current visa or has been in New Zealand unlawfully for less than 42 days, and then, only if D8.5 applies.
