V4.10 Sponsorship

  1. Applicant(s) must provide a sponsorship form completed by their New Zealand citizen or residence class visa holder sponsor(s) (see E6).
  2. A sponsor or sponsors must be:
    1. the adult child of the principal applicant; or
    2. the adult child of the principal applicant and the adult child’s partner (joint sponsorship); or
    3. the adult child of the principal applicant and one other adult child of either applicant included in the application (joint sponsorship).
  3. For sponsorship purposes, 'adult child' means a child of 18 years of age or older. However, children aged 18 to 24 must only be considered as 'adult children’ for sponsorship purposes if they can satisfy an immigration officer that they, like other sponsors, are able to meet sponsorship undertakings (see E6.15).

    Note: Parents sponsored by children 18 years of age or older who are also dependent children (see V4.15.5) will not meet the requirements at V4.10.

  4. Each sponsor must:
    1. meet the requirements to be an acceptable sponsor as set out at E6; and
    2. agree to meet the undertakings set out at E6.15; and
    3. must not be a dependent child (see V4.15.5); and
    4. meet the relevant minimum income requirements for sponsors (see V4.25.15) if the sufficient funds requirement at V4.25(b) is met through sponsor income.
  5. A maximum of two adult children can act as sponsors.
  6. A sponsor can sponsor a maximum of six parents, including partners of those parents (see V4.25.15.10).
