H8.20 Sponsorship Requirements (15/03/2022)

  1. Applicants for a 2022 Special Ukraine Visa must be sponsored by an acceptable New Zealand sponsor.
  2. An acceptable New Zealand Sponsor is a person who:
    1. meets the acceptable sponsor requirements outlined in E6.5; and
    2. was born in Ukraine, or is a citizen, or was a citizen, or is a permanent resident of the Ukraine; and
    3. is ordinarily resident in New Zealand.
  3. A New Zealand sponsor must agree to the sponsorship undertakings in E6.15.

H8.20.5 Family relationship requirements (extended family)

  1. The Nominated Family Member must be the New Zealand sponsor’s:
    1. parent; or
    2. grandparent; or
    3. sibling; or
    4. adult child.
  2. For the purposes of (a) above, a parent includes:
    1. a biological or adoptive parent; and
    2. a partner of a biological or adoptive parent who the New Zealand sponsor lived with for a predominant period of the their childhood between the time their relationship began and until the time the child turned 18 years of age.

H8.20.10 Ordinarily Resident in New Zealand

For sponsorship purposes, a person is considered to be ‘ordinarily resident’ in New Zealand where an immigration officer is satisfied that New Zealand is their primary place of established residence.
