South Africa Exceptions (27/01/2013)

The qualifications listed in Table A below qualify for the points indicated where the qualification:

  • is relevant to an occupation in Part B of the List of Skilled Occupations at Appendix 6, and
  • was awarded within the date range in Table B specified in the column labelled ‘Qualification awarded from’ , and
  • is included with evidence of a completed contract of apprenticeship in a trade speciality listed below in Table C:
  • between 1977 - 1983, awarded or endorsed by the Registrar of Apprenticeship (Apprenticeship Act, No.37, 1944 with amendments), in the same or similar occupation as the qualification from Table A, or
  • from 1984, awarded or endorsed by the Register of Manpower Training, in terms of the Manpower Training Act, 1981, in the same or similar occupation as the qualification from Table A.

If an applicant believes their qualification may be higher than the level stated they should apply to the NZQA for an International Qualification Assessment.

Note: Award certificates must be provided in their original language for all qualifications.

If any courses leading to the award of one of the qualifications listed in Table A above were studied at any institution outside of South Africa, including any South African overseas campuses, or any courses have been cross-credited towards the listed qualifications please refer the qualification to the NZQA for an International Qualification Assessment.

All qualifications awarded after 2013 should be referred to NZQA for an International Qualification Assessment.

For any purpose other than claiming the SMC points stated, additional evidence of at least a qualifying trade test, in a relevant occupation, is likely to also be required.
