V2.30 Waiver of funds and/or sponsorship requirements and/or tickets for visitor visa applications (29/11/2010)

Immigration officers with Schedule 3 delegations and above may waive the requirements for funds and/or sponsorship and/or airline tickets in the case of applicants for visitor visas such as, but not limited to, the following:

  1. tour group applicants for whom the sponsoring agency has confirmed that all applicants will have sufficient funds and return tickets;
  2. government officials travelling on business, if they are officially supported by their home government;

    Note: Immigration officers in non-INZ offices should request a special direction for government officials in every case from an officer with the required authority at an INZ branch.

  3. genuine business travellers, if they are formally supported by their employer;
  4. genuine tourists, if the immigration officer is satisfied that:
    1. they are genuine tourists; and
    2. they have made a suitable declaration as to funds and tickets on the application form;
  5. the partner and dependants of a work visa holder, if the employer is a guarantor (see W2.15) or the work visa holder has sufficient funds or income for their maintenance and repatriation;
  6. the partner and dependants of a student visa holder on a scholarship, if the scholarship guarantees maintenance and repatriation of the partner and dependants;
  7. residence applicants, if the officer is confident that the application for residence is likely to succeed.
