D9.5 Categories of people who may be considered for repatriation

People are not normally considered for repatriation unless:

1. they wish to leave New Zealand, or if they are incapable of making such a decision themselves by reason of their mental condition, the relevant agencies involved consider that it is in the best interests of the person to return to their own country because of lack of family support and links in New Zealand; and/or
2. they do not have the financial means to leave New Zealand themselves and are unable to obtain assistance from any other source; and/or
3. they are a burden on the State and likely to remain so, because they:
   1. are destitute and require social welfare assistance; or
   2. require long term medical or psychiatric treatment; and/or hospitalisation; and/or
4. the State is removing one or more members of a family from New Zealand, and the family wishes to remain together but does not have the financial means to leave New Zealand themselves and are unable to obtain assistance from any other source.
