W6.45 Singapore/New Zealand Work Exchange Programme (01/04/2001)
  1. This programme allows each calendar year for a maximum of 200 Singapore citizens who:
    1. are undergraduate students registered with a Singapore university or polytechnic, or
    2. are graduates of Singapore universities or polytechnics,

    to obtain work visas allowing a maximum stay of six months in New Zealand on a first come first served basis.

  2. To be eligible for a work visa and permit under this programme, undergraduate applicants who wish to gain work experience in New Zealand before completing their course of study in Singapore must:
    1. be registered with a Singapore university or polytechnic, and
    2. be participants on an agreed exchange between their university or polytechnic in Singapore and a New Zealand university or polytechnic, or
    3. arrange their own employment by applying directly to a New Zealand employer, in which case it is not necessary to have an offer of employment prior to going to New Zealand.
  3. Graduates of Singapore universities or polytechnics are eligible for a work visa and permit under this programme provided they apply within a period of 3 years from the date of their graduation and meet the same conditions for undergraduate students as set out in W6.45(b) above.
  4. All applicants under this programme must:
    1. be a citizen of Singapore at the time of applying, and
    2. hold comprehensive health insurance for the period they wish to be in New Zealand, and
    3. if arranging their own employment in New Zealand have sufficient funds to purchase a return ticket and a minimum of NZ$2,250 available funds for maintenance.

      Note: Spouses, partners and dependent children are not permitted to accompany applicants to New Zealand.
