WD1 Work on completion of a course of study, with an offer of employment (28/11/2005)

1. People who have:
   1. successfully completed in New Zealand a course that has a minimum completion time of 3 years; or
   2. successfully completed in New Zealand a qualification that would qualify for points under the Skilled Migrant Category (see SM14); and
   3. hold an offer of employment relevant to their course or qualification,

   may be issued or granted a work visa/permit for a maximum period of 2 years to obtain practical experience suitable to their course or qualification.

2. To be issued or granted a work visa/permit under this policy, applicants must:
   1. apply no later than 3 months after the end date of their student permit for that course or qualification; or
   2. hold a ‘graduate job search work permit’ (see WD2).
3. Applicants must provide:
   1. a completed work application form and fee; and
   2. evidence of an offer of employment relevant to their course or qualification; and either:
      • evidence that they have completed a course in New Zealand with a minimum completion time of 3 years; or
      • evidence that they have completed a qualification in New Zealand that would qualify for points under the Skilled Migrant Category (see SM14).
4. Applicants must also provide:
   1. evidence that the work visa/permit application is being made no later than 3 months after the end date of their student permit for that course or qualification; or
   2. evidence that they hold a ‘graduate job search work permit’(see WD2).
5. A work visa/permit will only be granted where an immigration or visa officer is satisfied that the offer of employment is one which will provide practical experience relevant to the applicant's course or qualification.
6. Any work visas/permits issued or granted under this policy, may be endorsed with any or all of the conditions imposed by special direction as listed at W2.25.

Note: If the holder of a graduate job search work permit applies for a further work permit under this policy, the applicant is not required to provide a separate fee.
