W2.30 Work visas

Visa officers should refer to the following subsections (W2.30.1 to W2.30.10 below) when deciding what sort of work visa to issue.

W2.30.1 Single journey work visas

  1. Single journey work visas may be issued to working visitors who intend one visit to New Zealand.
  2. A single journey visa is normally current for travel within one month of the applicant's intended date of arrival, unless the visa or immigration officer considers the applicant's circumstances warrant a longer or shorter period.

W2.30.5 Multiple journey work visas

  1. Multiple journey work visas may be issued to frequent travellers if visa and immigration officers are satisfied that:
    1. the applicant's travel document is valid for a sufficient period; and
    2. the applicant has not breached the conditions of their permit on any previous visit.
  2. Multiple journey visas may be current for travel for a maximum of 3 years, depending on how long the employment offer or contract lasts.
  3. Holders of work permits other than people already holding a multiple journey work visa, who wish to travel outside New Zealand for a brief period, may be issued with a work visa provided that they meet the mandatory requirements for a work visa.

W2.30.10 Group work visa

  1. Group work visas may be issued to groups of people who intend to arrive together in New Zealand for the same purpose.
  2. Group visas should name each member of the group and are current for travel within one month of the applicants' intended date of arrival in New Zealand, unless the visa officer considers the applicants' circumstances warrant a longer or shorter period.
  3. A leader must take charge of the group work visa and present it on arrival with the passports or certificates of identity of the people named in it.
  4. Group work visas may also be issued to crew members travelling to New Zealand to join the same vessel, provided that all persons covered by the visa arrive in New Zealand together.

Effective 29/04/2002
