N2.1 Who must apply for a transit visa? (26/07/1999)

Immigration (Transit Visa) Regulations 1998 Schedule, Part I

  1. Any citizen of any one of the countries listed in paragraph (b) of Part I of the Schedule to the Immigration (Transit Visa) Regulations 1998, who intends to transit New Zealand either on the way to or coming from any of the countries listed in paragraph (a) of Part I of that Schedule, must obtain a transit visa (see N2.5 for the list of countries).
  2. However, persons whose intermediate or final destination after transiting New Zealand is Australia and who hold a current visa issued by the Government of Australia, are exempt from having to obtain a transit visa.
