BC3.5 Renewal of long-term business visas/permits (26/07/1999)

The long-term business visa/permit may be renewed only once, and for a further 3 years.
If the business immigration specialist considers that the business proposal, submitted at the time of the application for renewal, is substantially different from the initial proposal, then a new application is required.
For the long-term business visa/permit to be renewed, the principal applicant will have to satisfy the business immigration specialist that:
1. that any time in New Zealand has been spent setting up a business or running a business that they have set up; and
2. that they and any family member included in the application had not been drawing on the welfare system; and
3. that they intend to spend the next 3 years either setting up or running a business; and
4. that they have, in addition to investment capital, access to sufficient funds for their own maintenance and accommodation and that of any spouse partner or dependent child included in the application; and
5. that they meet health and character requirements (see A4 and A5); and
6. that they have valid reasons for needing a three year extension of their visa/permit.

BC3.5.1 Process for renewals

The business immigration specialist determines whether:
1. there has been a change in the proposed business; and
2. a further business plan is required; and
3. there has been a change in circumstances that may affect the level of funds required for maintenance and accommodation; and
4. the principal applicant or any family member included in the application has drawn on the social welfare system.
If a further business plan is required, it is assessed by means of the NZIS Proposal Assessment Tool.
If an application fails to meet policy, business immigration specialists must weigh up all the circumstances of the case to see whether an exception to policy is justified. In doing this, they should take into account any circumstance that would warrant an exception.
