V3.35 Fiancé(e)s of New Zealand citizens or residents (26/07/1999)

1. Fiancé(e)s of New Zealand citizens or residents may be issued with a visitor's visa authorising a permit for a maximum stay of 9 months from their date of arrival, provided that:
   1. the couple intend to marry within 9 months of the fiancé(e)'s/applicant's arrival in New Zealand, and
   2. the New Zealand fiancé(e) intends to stay in New Zealand for a maximum of 9 months, and
   3. the New Zealand fiancé(e) supports the application.
2. If the initial permit is current for less than 9 months, a further permit may be granted for up to 9 months from the date of arrival in New Zealand.
3. If applicants are already in New Zealand when applying, the permit will be current for a maximum of 9 months from their date of arrival in New Zealand.

V3.35.1 Evidence for fiancé(e)s of New Zealand citizens or residents

1. Visa or immigration officers must establish by interview and be satisfied that:
   1. the applicant has provided evidence of their fiancé(e)'s New Zealand citizenship or residence status, and
   2. the couple intends to marry within 9 months of arrival, and
   3. the applicant has provided evidence of their New Zealand fiancé(e)'s support in writing.

      Note: The applicant does not require an outward ticket if the New Zealand fiancé(e) or another New Zealand citizen or resident formally sponsors the applicant using the relevant NZIS sponsorship form, and if this sponsorship includes a guarantee of repatriation.

2. Applicants whose initial permit is current for less than 9 months:
   1. must apply for a further permit before the initial permit expires, and
   2. are eligible for a maximum stay of only 9 months from the date of their arrival in New Zealand, unless they apply for residence after their marriage.
