U8.10 Partners and dependent children of diplomatic personnel

  1. Partners and dependent children (see E4.1) of diplomatic personnel who wish to study in New Zealand may be issued with student visas or granted student permits, unless they are exempt from having to hold a visa or permit to be in New Zealand.
  2. If a diplomatic tour of duty terminates during the academic year, and the partner or dependent child ceases to be exempt from having to hold a permit, they must obtain a student permit to continue studying.
  3. Partners and dependent children of diplomatic personnel, who themselves hold an exemption label, are regarded as domestic students (see U3.35) for the purpose of all course fees until the end of the calendar year in which the diplomat's tour of duty terminates, and they are not required to provide evidence of having paid course fees in order to complete the academic year.
