U2.10 Student permit conditions (26/07/1999)

Immigration Regulations 1999 reg 22

Unless there is a special direction to the contrary, every holder of a student permit must:

  1. have the means to maintain themselves in New Zealand while the permit is current, in the form of:
    1. funds held in New Zealand, or
    2. an acceptable form of undertaking by a third party supplied to a visa officer before arrival in New Zealand, or
    3. a current approved undertaking on maintenance or accommodation supplied by a sponsor, or
    4. financial assistance available to the holder under any multilateral or bilateral aid programme administered in New Zealand by a government department or statutory body; and
  2. have the means while the permit is current to travel to a country to which they have right of entry, in the form of:
    1. a fully paid travel ticket to any such country, or
    2. sufficient funds held in New Zealand ie, funds additional to any sum required under paragraph (a) to purchase any such ticket, or
    3. an acceptable form of undertaking by a third party supplied to a visa officer before arrival in New Zealand, or
    4. a current approved undertaking on repatriation supplied by a sponsor, or
    5. financial assistance available to the holder under any multilateral or bilateral aid programme administered in New Zealand by a government department or statutory body; and
  3. attend the place of study or training endorsed on the permit by an immigration officer (or, endorsed on the visa by a visa officer); and
  4. make satisfactory progress in the course of study as determined by the Ministry of Education or other relevant national or governing body; and
  5. pay all or any fees for the course of study or training.
