U2.5 When a student visa or permit is not required

Immigration Regulations 1999 Schedule 1, Parts 3-6

A student visa or permit or variation of conditions is not required:

  1. in order to undertake any training (other than an apprenticeship or a cadetship) provided by an employer as part of the normal conditions of employment offered to the holder of a work permit (eg, routine-on-the- job training) other than a work permit issued under a Working Holiday Scheme; or
  2. to undertake one or more courses of study or training of not more than three calendar months' duration in total per permit, or in each 12 month period if the permit is valid for a minimum of 24 months; or
  3. where V2.30 applies.
