Visa processing under COVID-19 restrictions

Immigration New Zealand offices are currently closed and most of our staff are working remotely.

Alert level changes

As alert levels drop, some staff will be in most of Immigration New Zealand’s offices receiving and processing priority temporary visa application categories. Please expect some delays.

We are redirecting mail to offices outside the Auckland region to ensure applications can be lodged.

Most of our staff continue to work remotely and are focusing on processing online applications. We strongly encourage applicants to use online channels where available.

Current processing of online visa categories

Staff who are at home and are able to work are processing:

  • Border Exceptions,
  • Essential Skills work visas,
  • Work to Residence visas,
  • Partnership visas (temporary and residence),
  • Post-study work visas,
  • Student visas,
  • Visitor visas, and
  • Section 61 requests.

Reconsideration process for temporary entry visas

An interim reconsideration process of a temporary entry decision for applicants inside New Zealand has been set up during lockdown.

Applicants who request reconsideration through the Immigration Contact Centre must do so within 14 days.
