Can I undertake a short course of study while visiting NZ?
Good question - and it depends on the length of the course. Take a look here for the options.
Option A: Study for less than 3 months
If you want to study part-time you can take 1 or more courses of study that lasts no longer than 3 months in total.
Option B: Apply for a variation of conditions
If you want to study longer than 3 months, or study consecutive courses that last for longer than 3 months in total, apply for a variation of conditions to your existing visa.

Option C: Apply for a student visa
If you want to study full-time in New Zealand, apply for a student visa.
