Can I claim points for my qualifications?

You can gain points for qualifications such as trade certificates, diplomas, bachelor degrees and postgraduate qualifications.

The points you can earn will depend on what level your qualification occupies on the New Zealand Qualification Framework (NZQF).

You can claim points for your qualification if it is a recognised qualification.

A recognised qualification is one that meets one of the following:

  • an assessment by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority of the level it occupies on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF)
  • the level it occupies on the NZQF as set out in the 'List of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment'
  • the level it occupies on the NZQF based on the applicant’s occupational registration in New Zealand (if that registration involves an assessment of comparability with a qualification on the ‘List of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment’)
  • the level it occupies on the NZQF due to its status as a Washington Accord or Sydney Accord accredited undergraduate qualification.
