Applicants for student visas must have sufficient funds available to support themselves in New Zealand. Evidence of having sufficient funds may include a completed Financial Undertaking for a Student (INZ 1014) form.

When this financial undertaking is provided, the person or organisation acting as a guarantor should be recorded as a contact in AMS. Recording this person or organisation in the AMS contacts tab allows their identity to be confirmed during the assessment of subsequent applications, and the number of students they are supporting to be more easily confirmed.

There are currently various methods of recording the person who is accepted as providing a financial undertaking for a student. In order to standardise how this is recorded, the following process should be followed.

Process
Immigration staff should record student guarantors at lodgement as contacts in the AMS contacts tab. Staff should record the person who completes the Financial Undertaking for a Student (INZ 1014) form as a ‘Student Guarantor’ contact in AMS.

The ‘Financial Guarantor’ contact type may be used for people who provide financial support to students, but who do not complete the INZ 1014 form.
