Chest x-ray films forwarded to the Health Assessment Team

Chest x-ray (CXR) films are now scanned into a digital image and added to the Immigration Health System (IHS). It is not possible to clearly scan damaged CXR films. Where the CXR films have been damaged, the relevant Immigration New Zealand (INZ) office may be required to ask the applicant to have a further CXR, which leads to additional costs for applicants.

Handling and Storage of CXR films

  • Do not to bend or fold CXR films
  • Do not staple CXR films (please remove staples if they have been stapled previously)
  • Do not take CXR films out of protective envelopes unless there is a reason for doing so, as CXR films can be easily scratched

CXR films from non-eMedical enabled countries will generally be sent to the Health Assessment Team directly from the panel physician but the above information applies if received via INZ offices or re-referring CXR films already held on file.

CXR films should be stored or posted flat (and supported by cardboard the size of the CXR film to add support where possible). This is particularly important when forwarding by Diplomatic Bags, which can travel long distances to New Zealand.
Please note and follow this advice.
