Short Term English Language Studies Visitor Visa

When young children accompanied by their parent(s) come to NZ to do short term English language study (STE), several possible options are available in issuing the parent(s) and the children visitor visas (VV). In some cases the applicants may lodge separate applications for the parents and children while in other cases one application may be lodged for the family.

For INZ to better meet customer needs and to be able to capture the number of applications for STE, the following best practice is recommended.

Best practice for visitor visa applications for STE

If a child will travel with their parent/s

Please lodge one VV application under the AMS application type STE. The parent can be listed as the principal applicant with the child/ren included as secondary applicant/s. This option is consistent with immigration instructions E4.1 – who may be included in an application and is also customer centric. It will also enable us to report on the number of the STE applications.

Please inform staff to follow this advice.
