Work Visas issued under an AIP

This advice is to provide consistency in interpreting the conditions placed on Approval in Principle (AIP).

It is important for Immigration Officers to read the AIP approval letter that is saved in template letters in AMS and ensure that any work visas issued under that AIP strictly meet the conditions of the AIP.

It is also important to note that the validity of an AIP is the time that an employer has to recruit for the positions in the AIP. This may differ from dates the work visas can be issued. For example an AIP could be valid for 12 months but any work visa issued under the AIP may only be issued for 6 months.

If an Immigration Officer is unsure how to interpret the conditions of an AIP, it is important that they contact the Immigration Officer who approved the AIP or Operations Support.
