IRD numbers for RSE workers - Reminder

In 2009, a system was set up by which RSE workers could request their IRD numbers as part of their visa application. This allows the employer to correctly set up their pay from when they first arrive in New Zealand.

There have been a few instances lately of Officers not indicating in AMS when an RSE worker wants an IRD number. Given it has been a long time since this process was set up, we’d like to remind everyone of what they need to do.

Action

If the RSE applicant has indicated in their visa application form that they would like to obtain an IRD number, please remember to tick the box at the bottom of the label formatting screen:

It is important that this box is completed where an applicant requests an IRD number, because this triggers a transfer of the person’s details to Inland Revenue so an IRD number can be granted. If this box is greyed out, it means that the applicant has already requested an IRD number, and cannot do so again.

If you realise the box should have been ticked but was not after the label has been issued:
Fill in the attached spread-sheet for the client and email it to Inland Revenue on irdnumber@ird.govt.nz
