Licenced Immigration Advisers working for multiple companies

Licenced Immigration Advisers (LIAs) are able to work for more than one company/employer. The licence that they are issued does not bind them to one place of employment.

The Immigration Advisers Authority (IAA) retains a public register of all LIAs on their website. The register only records the LIAs primary place of employment. If a LIA decides to work for another company or for themselves, they must advise the IAA of this. This information is not recorded on the public register.

Recently, there have been a number of cases raised with Operations Support where LIAs have not been correctly added to AMS, i.e. an application is submitted with a LIAs secondary place of employment but the LIAs primary place of employment has been recorded on AMS.

Situation
If INZ receives an application where the LIA representing the application has provided contact details that are different to their primary place of employment then staff first need to confirm that the LIA has advised the IAA of this. This can be done either by querying with the LIA or contacting Operations Support.

If it is confirmed that the IAA are aware of their secondary place of employment then staff must ensure the secondary place of employment is correctly recorded on AMS. Instructions of how to do this are below.

AMS Work around
When an application is received from a LIA and their contact details are for their secondary place of employment, then the correct way to add them to AMS is:

  • Go to the Contacts Tab
  • Add a new contact ‘Adviser – Licensed’ using the LIAs primary place of employment
  • Add a new contact ‘Contact – Other’ using the LIAs secondary place of employment
  • Add AMS notes confirming that the adviser is licenced and is representing the applicant

This ensures that the LIAs contact details are correct and that when the LIA contacts the ICC, staff are aware of the situation.

Please advise staff of the above
