2012-Apr 27: Deciding Temporary Entry applications

Visa Pak 62 - Advice to Immigration Officers about deciding Temporary Entry applications and the implications of deciding an application subject to further requirements being met

AMS reports show that some temporary visa applications have been approved subject to certain requirements being met. In some case the requirements include meeting immigration instructions such as Health, when a Medical Certificate has been referred to a Medical Assessor.

There are several problems associated with deciding applications in this manner such as:

  • ICC will not have the correct information for the customer if AMS shows it as ‘decided’
  • the Interim Visa system is not activated when an application is at “decided” stage on AMS. Consequently, applicants are put at risk of becoming unlawful through no fault of their own
  • any audit of the decision will show that instructions were not met at the time of decision.

Do not “decide” applications on AMS subject to provisions (except the provision of a passport for the label, if appropriate).
