Delegated power under section 384(1) of the Immigration Act 2009

Section 384(1) of the Immigration Act 2009 allows the Chief Executive to make an endorsement in relation to a passport (other than a New Zealand passport) to indicate the fact of the person's New Zealand citizenship.

This power was previously delegated to immigration officers holding Schedule 2 Ministerial delegations and above. These are straightforward applications and branches have advised that it would be more efficient if approval of these applications sat at a lower level than immigration managers.

The Chief Executive has agreed to delegate this power to officers holding Schedule 3 delegations and above.
