National Refugee Resettlement Forum

Each year, the National Refugee Resettlement Forum provides refugee resettlement stakeholders with the opportunity to actively engage on strategic refugee resettlement issues.

Immigration New Zealand, in partnership with the New Zealand Refugee Advisory Panel, hosted the 2026 Forum.

The theme focused on refugee education as a key driver of positive long-term resettlement outcomes.

Around 190 participants attended including representatives from:

  • government agencies
  • non-government organisations
  • refugee-led organisations, and
  • the education sector.

The agenda was co-developed by a planning team including Immigration New Zealand, the New Zealand Refugee Advisory Panel, Ministry of Education, English Language Partners, and community representatives.

The agenda included presentations and discussions on:

  • refugee education — why is this important
  • panel discussions
  • what is working and not working, and
  • sharing of local solutions.
