Work visa extension aligned for partners and dependants Wednesday, 19 August 2020

The Government will apply the same expiry date extension of employer-assisted work visas made in July 2020 to the partners and dependants of the principal visa holder, where their visa would have expired from 17 August onward.

Partners and dependants with a visa based on their relationship with the holder of an extended employer-assisted temporary work visa will have their visas extended too. This extension applied if the holder of the employer-assisted temporary work visa was in New Zealand on 10 July 2020 and their visa was due to expire by 31 December 2020, and the partner or dependent child’s visa would have expired on or after 17 August 2020.

Partner or dependant visa categories include:

  • partner of a worker visa work visa
  • partner of a worker visa visitor visa
  • dependent child student visa
  • child of a worker visitor visa.

These changes are currently being implemented. Visa holders or their advisors will receive an email from Immigration New Zealand confirming the visa extension shortly.

Confirmation emails have been sent to visa holders who have had their visas extended. If you have not received an email but believe your visa should have been extended, call the Immigration Contact Centre.
