Some Visa Application Centres to reopen for processing on 7 September Monday, 7 September 2020

From Monday 7 September 2020, selected New Zealand Visa Application Centres (VACs) will reopen to accept applications from people who meet the border exceptions criteria.

Services the VACs will be open to provide include:

  • passport scanning
  • Permanent Residence Visas
  • eVisa label transfer requests — such as from an old to a new passport.

You can check which locations are open and what services they offer on the VFS Global website.

There will be a phased approach to reopening the entire VAC network based on country conditions.

VAC services are only available for people who meet a border exception

We are only processing visa applications for people outside of New Zealand who meet the strict border exception criteria, as the New Zealand border is still restricted.

Border restrictions: who can enter New Zealand or request to travel

If you are outside New Zealand, you cannot currently apply for temporary visas – this is in effect for at least 3 months from 10 August 2020.

If you do not meet a border exception your application will be returned. It will not be forwarded to Immigration New Zealand.

How to submit your application

If you meet the border exceptions criteria, you are encouraged to send in your documents by post or courier to minimise risks associated with personal interactions.

Apply online if you are able to.

All VACs will operate an appointments system upon reopening if you need to submit an application in person. To ensure health and safety and contact tracing protocols are followed, a mandatory appointment system will be operating.

The VFS website has information on how to book an appointment.

If your local VAC is still closed

We are working to have the majority of our VACs open in the near future. If your nearest VAC is closed, and your application is urgent and you meet border exception criteria, contact us for further information on the options available to you.
